At King, we are passionate about advancing education and equity for all students, particularly those attending California’s local public schools. Our mission is to secure new funding and identify critical planning opportunities that empower school districts to thrive. Prop 2, a $10 billion investment for California’s public schools, represents a crucial step in our collective journey toward safer, healthier learning environments for students. As a comprehensive school planning firm, we proudly support Prop 2, which will address the urgent infrastructure needs of our schools without raising taxes or fees. Here’s why Prop 2 matters and why we’re urging a YES vote on or before November 5, 2024.
The reality of California’s aging schools
For decades, many of California’s public schools have operated in facilities that are well past their prime. A shocking 38% of California’s students attend schools that do not meet basic safety standards. These aging buildings, often constructed more than 70 years ago, are plagued by issues such as asbestos, mold, unsafe drinking water, and extreme temperatures. When schools fail to provide safe, supportive environments, it’s the students who suffer the most.
King has seen the consequences of this neglect firsthand through our work with school districts across the state. Poor infrastructure not only threatens student safety but also hinders academic performance. How can children focus on learning when their classrooms are sweltering, or when they have concerns about the air they breathe or the water they drink? It’s clear that something must be done.
What Prop 2 will do
Prop 2 is a forward-thinking measure designed to tackle the most pressing repairs and upgrades in California’s local public schools. It authorizes a $10 billion investment that will directly address safety hazards and infrastructure deficiencies, including:
- Replacing toxic materials like asbestos and mold;
- Upgrading heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure classrooms remain cool during extreme heat;
- Providing access to safe, clean drinking water;
- Modernizing electrical systems to support today’s technology-driven education;
- Funding door locks, emergency communications & security systems, fire alarms, smoke detectors, and more.
Importantly, Prop 2 achieves all of this without raising taxes or fees. School facilities across California will be improved, including many projects that will only be possible because of this critical State funding.
King’s commitment to educational equity
Our work is driven by a commitment to educational equity. We believe that every child, regardless of their background or zip code, deserves access to a safe and supportive learning environment. Prop 2 aligns perfectly with this vision by ensuring that the children most affected by unsafe school conditions are given the resources they need to succeed.
We have long partnered with school districts to secure the funding necessary for facility upgrades, and Prop 2 will provide a much-needed boost in these efforts. By supporting this measure, we are reinforcing our dedication to creating school environments where all students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Vote YES on Prop 2
Prop 2 is not just about repairing buildings—it’s about investing in the future of our children. By addressing the critical infrastructure issues in our schools, we can ensure that students are safe, warm, dry, and ready to learn! King stands firmly in support of Prop 2, and we encourage you to join us in voting YES on or before November 5, 2024. Together, we can make a difference for California’s students.
